Heh. Yeah, I’m looking at that and thinking “Hey, if I have access to a perfectly good airplane, why the hell do I need a bus???”

Hmmm this gives me an idea for a LEGO project. Minifigure scale too :D

Well the question is would you like to spend two days in a noisy, cramped, uncomfortable, and not especially safe early aircraft, making a bunch of refueling stops, or would you rather travel in a super bus, taking longer, but providing the amenities of a luxury hotel?

Yeah, I’m not convinced the land cruise is a great idea, but we shouldn’t underestimate how sucky even luxury options for early passenger airplane travel could be.

Yeah, I’m always tickled with the story of the Soviet Prime Minister demanding that they “show off” by converting a TU-95 (the noisiest bomber ever built, by a long way) into his version of Air Force One prior to a meeting with the Americans.
He proved that “luxury travel” and “comfortable travel” by air were two completely different things.
